Artist Statement

I began my career in the late 1970s under the pseudonym Heinrich Stoltz, selling drawings through Bonhams, Sotheby’s and Christie’s. A long mentorship with Royal portrait painter John Hughes‑Hallett followed, leading to international portrait commissions and shaping the early part of my practice. Later, large landscape commissions and exhibitions in London and New York marked a shift toward a more expressive, nature‑led approach.

Today I work primarily in pastel and oil from my studio on the south coast, creating paintings that explore movement, stillness and the changing seasons. The garden continues to be my anchor, a place of renewal, rhythm and endless inspiration.
